AcuYoga and Tulum Retreat
“Gratitude is the understanding that many millions of things come together and live together and mesh together and breathe together in order for us to take even one more breath of air, that the underlying gift of life and incarnation as a living, participating human being is a privilege; that we are miraculously, part of something, rather than nothing.”
A favorite topic of the comedic genius, Louis C.K., is how modern people seem to be perpetually ungrateful for conveniences and gadgets that our great grand parents could never have even imagined. For instance, he loves to rail on the annoyance that people express over ‘spotty’ cell phone coverage on road trips or the ‘slow’ rate at which videos are being sent as attachments to text messages. He exposes the absurdity of our dissatisfaction in such a funny way that we cannot help but laugh at ourselves. In the same spirit, I think that one of the main reasons that yoga is relevant for everyone navigating today’s world is because it strips away the encrusted layers of bodily habit associated with our discontent, thereby waking us up to the sheer wonder of being alive. As we experience connections within the body, we intuit our connection to the greater body of the human family and the even greater body of the planet. Somehow the complaining voice in our head vanishes and gratitude spontaneously arises.
If you feel ‘wonder-depleted’ or even just Jazz Fest fatigued, then come on in for class this weekend! We have our normal line up, including Adero’s highly intelligent Foundations of Flow on Saturday at 8am and Keith’s ever-popular Restorative Yoga on Sunday at 4pm. We also have another special round of Valerie’s AcuYoga happening on Saturday from 1:30-3:30pm. For all the mothers out there, this is your chance to bliss out with the unique combination of delicious restorative poses and a calming, nurturing acupuncture session. You deserve it, so sign up now by clicking on the big Workshops tab at the bottom of the newsletter.
And even though this might seem like eons away, I wanted to announce the retreat that I’ll be leading in Tulum, Mexico from January 24-28 of 2018. We haven’t held a retreat for the last two years, and I’ve been planning this one for about that long. So I am quite pleased to have finally nailed down the dates and discovered a top-notch retreat center that will host what promises to be an amazing experience.
