Crawfish, Beer, and Beginner’s Yoga
– Suzuki Roshi
At first glance, the subject line of this newsletter might seem oxymoronic. What on earth could eating crawfish and drinking beer possibly have to do with beginning a yoga practice? Well, at FSY we like to think that yoga is about balance and that one does not need to subscribe to any particular beliefs in order to enjoy it’s many benefits. Obviously we wouldn’t recommend eating 5 pounds of crawfish, draining a couple of cold draft beers, and then rolling out your mat to practice some sun salutations. That sequence would surely result in a terrible stomach ache! What we mean is that just because you enjoy the sensual bounty that the New Orleans spring has to offer, you shouldn’t conclude that you are ill-fit for yoga. This practice is designed to complement and enhance your life on all levels.
Therefore, I would like to invite you to two events that will be happening at the studio this weekend. On Saturday, please stop by sometime between 12:30-5:30pm to help the participants of our 6-month Advanced Studies/Teacher Training Program celebrate the completion of their immersion. The whole Freret Street corridor will be buzzing with live music and food vendors, so come on out! On Sunday, Frances will be teaching a 90-minute crash course starting at 11am that is designed to demystify the basic yoga postures and prepare new students to participate in our level 1+ classes. If you know of any friends or family members who are curious about yoga but have been too intimidated to start, then kindly forward them this email so that they can fulfill their 2014 New Year’s resolution. Signing up is as simple as clicking the big button below, or of course you could always visit the schedule page on our web site.
