Thanksgiving Announcements

“It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones; just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate, this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice may speak.”
-Mary Oliver

Greetings Everyone!

I love Thanksgiving. What a wonderful ritual our culture has established to practice contentment, celebrate abundance, and serve those who are in need. In my opinion, the whole yoga practice is ‘a doorway into thanks’. And I cherish those moments of silence in which a voice other than my analytical mind may speak. On behalf of everyone here at FSY, we thank you for your support and friendship. It is an honor and a privilege to share this great practice, and we love that we all keep learning from each other as we walk down this path. It’s hard to believe that the studio just turned 7 years old because in many ways it feels like we’ve been here forever.

So while we want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, we also recognize that as New Orleanians we have a genetic proclivity toward over-indulgence. Therefore, if you are interested in a holiday weekend reprieve from eating and drinking, come join us on Friday, November 24 from 10:00am-12:30pm for a revivifying practice called Core Cleanse. We will move through a nice sequence of hip opening and abdominal strengthening poses to prepare ourselves for seated twists, which are revered in yoga lore for their detoxifying effects. Then we will attempt some of the more esoteric cleansing practices that we rarely address in the public classes. If you’ve attended this workshop in the past, notice how I added 30 minutes so that we definitely won’t run out of time for the full gamut of purifying techniques this year! Space is limited, as usual, so be sure to reserve your spot now.

Oh, and be sure to check out the class schedule for a few holiday cancellations. Obviously the studio will be closed on Thursday, but classes will be rolling as usual over the weekend. Hope to see you soon!

Take care,

Geoffrey
